[Mixtape] J. Cole – Truly Yours 2

J. Cole Yours Truly 2 cover

Cover Art for Yours Truly 2

Today, J. Cole gives us a preview of what he’s been up to since he last gave us some music. Following up on his earlier mixtape of the same name, we get another short tape to pick up some buzz for his upcoming album Born Sinner. I’m actually feeling this much more than his pop-ish (and much delayed) debut with Cole World: The Sideline Story. He’s in much better form lyrically and content wise here, even stepping up beyond his Warm Up mixtape. Check out the stream and download link after the jump.  read more »

FlyLo debuts new Earl Sweatshirt track

Flying Lotus, Earl Sweatshirt

Flying Lotus, Earl Sweatshirt

On Thursday night Flying Lotus demo’d a new track off of Earl’s upcoming album DORIS. Safe to say with the stuff FlyLo has been putting out recently, I’m excited to hear the CDQ.

And again, sorry for the sparse posts. I’ve been busy as of late and I’m preparing a couple big articles for ya.

Overdoz – F$WSAD ft. Problem

Sorry for the lack of updates recently! But I got some new ish for you to groove to.

Left to right: Blue Beard, The Short One, Not-so-big K.R.I.T, and the Light Skinned Guy

LA rap collective Overdoz dropped this track on Saturday and since then has been generating a lot of buzz. If the title makes you go “lol wut?” just listen to the chorus.

This song pretty much speaks to 90% of you hip-hop fans out there who just wanna f*ck, smoke weed, and sleep all day. I see you. This beat is WaVvY, mannnn

Juicy J – Ain’t No Coming Down [4/20 Anthem]

Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa

Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa doing what they do.

You say no to drugs, Juicy J can’t! This isn’t your typical weed rap. Juicy J raps in true-to-form style over an ominous beat that evokes that neo-noir Three 6 Mafia Memphis sound. This beat is straight up lugubrious, which manages to present an interesting contrast to Juicy J’s lyrical subject matter. The Three 6 Mafia member (now Taylor Gang affiliate,) is perfectly comfortable riding this fine line between gloominess and the good life, and in this zone he skillfully demonstrates this fact to his listeners. Song after the jump.

Daft Punk confirmed to be collaborating on Kanye West’s sixth album

Pharrell, Daft Punk, and Kanye West all together.

Pharrell, Daft Punk, and Kanye West

Great news keeps coming from the French robot duo, Daft Punk, who are claiming they might have production credits on Kanye West’s follow up to the critically acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

This news comes on the heel of their recent announcement for their new album Random Access Memories, as well as a series of videos from collaborators hyping the project, and a preview of their new single Get Lucky featuring Pharrell and Nile Rodgers. More on that later.

Daft Punk reveals that while Kanye West was in Paris recording and producing his sixth album (rumored to be called either Rich Black American, I Am God, or Black American Psycho) they managed to link up for a studio session.

On what arose from the session, Daft Punk reports via Rolling Stone, that upon laying down a melange of live and programmed drum patterns, Mr. West provided some vocal improvisation. One of the members, Thomas Bangalter, had this to say: read more »

Azealia Banks vs A$AP Rocky Part Deux

Following up on yesterdays news about the beef between Azealia Banks and the A$AP crew, we have some unexpected and hilarious new developments.

In retaliation to the negative press she received by essentially calling A$AP Rocky gay based on his views on purple lipstick, Azealia Banks brought more of the same insults to the table. Because there’s no such thing as bad press, right Azealia?

According to Azealia Banks, some dude named Kenny performed oral sex on A$AP Rocky. Credible? No. Not in the least. In my professional opinion, she’s nothing more than a high school girl using twitter as her “burn book.”

Unfortunately for her, A$APNVST isn’t having any of that. The A$AP crew member posted a picture on twitter of Azealia Banks (pre-fame) sucking some dick. I can’t post it. but you can find it by checking various media outlets.

It’s not sexy.

Looks like Azealia Banks lips have once again become the center of attention

Azealia Banks

Really Azealia, this whole situation could have been avoided if you weren’t just SO DAMN SENSITIVE. Now you gotta deal with more bullsh*t. I’ll see you guys in the inevitable part three.

Azealia Banks directs homophobic slurs at A$AP Rocky

If Azealia Banks put as much time into making money as she does beefing with other rappers, she’d be Jay-Z rich. Seriously, just check out this very scientific graph a bunch of scientists put together.

Scientific analysis of Azealia Bank's career thus far

A$AP Rocky’s, one of hip-hop’s fashionista’s, recently gave his opinion on lipstick and what colour he thought suited what complexion.  Huffington Post reports:

“But for real, for me, I feel like with the red lipstick thing it all depends on the pair of complexion. I’m just being for real. You have to be fair skinned to get away with that. Just like if you were to wear like—f*cking for instance, what do dark skin girls have that you know fair skinned girls cant do… Purple lipstick? Naw, that looks stupid on all girls! Purple lipstick, guys! Like, what the f*ck…”

Apparently to sensitive little Azealia Banks, A$AP giving his opinions means #SHOTSFIRED in her direction. You see, because she wears purple lipstick. Oh lord, I see the connection now. In any case, due to this presumably innocuous comment, Azealia Banks retaliated by calling A$AP Rocky’s sexuality into question. Because he commented on his personal preference.

Stop acting like he punked you. Stop beefing with everybody in the rap game, Azealia. It’s obvious that you do it for the publicity it brings, and maybe I’m encouraging your behavior by even wasting my time writing about it. But hey, I gotta eat too. So I look forward to more of your ridiculous behavior. But if you want to be taken seriously you’re going to need to do better than some sophomoric 5th grade insults.

Azealia Banks

Rap Game Warlock of Qarth? You decide.

Yours truly,

NEW Jay Z – Open Letter [prod. Swizz Beats]

Cover for Jay Z's song "Open Letter"

Y’all gon’ learn today! Jay Z addresses the political/social elite  as well as responds to the American right-wing completely losing their collective sh*t over Hov and Beyonce’s state sanctioned trip to Cuba.  Yes, you read that correctly, these days Jay Z carries so much influence he got his homeboy Obama to rubberstamp a trip that goes against US federal law. In typical Jay fashion he effortlessly brushes the haters and critics off like dirt on his shoulder. He also shows us that almost 20 years in the game he can still produce dope tracks.

“Obama said chill you gon’ get me impeached/
we don’t need this sh*t anyway, chill with me on the beach”

Song after the jump.  read more »
